About Us

About OChEGS

The Organization of Chemical Engineering Graduate Students (OChEGS) at the University of Houston brings together graduate students in chemical engineering to connect, collaborate, and build community. We provide a platform to network, exchange ideas, discuss research, and, just as importantly, add a little fun to the graduate school experience. Our goal is to foster a healthy social environment that complements a rigorous, research-driven lifestyle.

OChEGS hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including faculty luncheons, picnics, movie nights, and other social and professional activities. These events give graduate students the opportunity to relax, recharge, and build meaningful connections beyond the lab.

If you are in industry or academics and want to attend the annual research symposium or one of our other events or if you simply want to know how to get involved, feel free to contact us.

Our Objectives

Facilitate Research Dissemination and Industry Engagement

Organize the Annual Research Symposium, provide a premier platform for students to present research, network with peers, faculty, and industry representatives.

Foster Community and Collaboration

Promote unity and a sense of belonging through seminars, social gatherings, and collaborative activities designed to connect graduate students. Serve as a representative voice for graduate students, providing an open forum for discussion and feedback on departmental matters.

Enhance Professional Development

Organize targeted career development workshops, including career advising, resume critiques, and interview preparation sessions.

Support Mentorship

Implement mentorship programs that connect graduate students with peers and undergraduate students.

Annual
Research Symposium

OChEGS organizes an annual research symposium, now in its 41st year, which showcases the outstanding work of our graduate students. The symposium provides a platform for students to present their research, refine their technical communication skills, and network with professionals from industry and academia. Recruiters and attendees gain firsthand insight into the talent and innovation within the William A. Brookshire Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.

Social & Community Events

Academic Seminars & Industry Events

OChEGS organizes summer research seminars, facilitates dialogue between graduate students and industry professionals, and hosts events such as the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, among others.
