Abstract

Early research efforts on using hydrogen as transportation fuel are first discussed. The case for hydrogen to be the energy carrier for vehicular transportation is then presented. Hydrogen can be generated from a variety of energy sources and the appropriateness of each source for hydrogen production is discussed. Our research on โ€œgreenโ€ hydrogen production methods is then discussed, ranging from thermochemical cycle synthesis, to hydrogen production from natural gas. The importance of carbon management for natural gas based hydrogen production is elaborated on. Finally, hydrogen cars, kart racing and safety are discussed.
